A massive steel truss weighing about 180,000 pounds has been lifted into place at Durango Casino in southwest Las Vegas as construction reaches the halfway point of its $385 million expansion.
140 Ft. Long, 20 Ft. Tall
The huge structure, measuring nearly 140 feet long and 20 feet tall, was installed Friday, September 18, as part of the second expansion of Station Casinos’ Durango property.
Suffolk Construction, the project’s general contractor, used a crane weighing roughly 650,000 pounds for the lift, with a second crane assisting with the operation.
Durango opened in December 2023 following an impressive $780 million development. The property completed its first $120 million expansion in December 2025, and work on the latest project began in January 2026.
The second expansion is expected to take about 18 months and remains on schedule to open during the second half of 2027, according to Red Rock Resorts president Scott Kreeger.
400 More Slot Machines, Bowling Alley, Luxury Movie Theaters
The latest project will add more than 275,000 square feet to the north side of the resort. The expanded casino floor will include 400 additional slot machines, while new entertainment options will include a 36-lane bowling facility and luxury movie theaters.
One of the largest additions will be Moonshine Flats, a country-western bar and entertainment venue. The two-story facility will cover about 29,000 square feet.
Kreeger said in August that Durango has continued to perform well despite the disruption caused by ongoing construction. He described the property as an important growth driver in the Las Vegas locals market.
The expansion follows the property’s first major addition, which brought more than 25,000 square feet of casino space and 230 slot machines.
That project also introduced a high-limit slot area with 120 machines and a new bar.
With the latest construction now around the halfway mark, the southwest Las Vegas property is preparing for another significant increase in gaming, dining, and entertainment space when the project is completed next year.
In the meantime, Durango Casino & Resort continues to reward players with huge jackpots from popular games like Panda Magic, one of the Dragon Link slot machines available at the High Limit slot room.
One such event occurred in April 2026 when a particularly lucky guest claimed the Grand Jackpot prize of $1,159,768.43 after placing an initial wager of $25 at the off-Strip casino resort.
The casino has continued to introduce several worthwhile expansions aimed at its gaming facilities, including the Fortune Coin Bonus Room featuring three available must-hit jackpots (Mini, Major, and Grand).
The jackpots have been designed to drop before accumulating $500, $5,000, and $10,000, respectively.
